ABOUT ME
Michael McConnell
Michael McConnell is an award-winning brand consultant, cultural marketer, community leader, keynote speaker and author. A proud New Yorker who grew up in the challenging streets of Jamaica, Queens, in the 80s, he embodies hard work and compassion for humanity. As the founder of The Rebel Camp, Michael has successfully launched tech startups, beverage companies, and wellness groups.
He serves as the co-founder and Head of Culture and Marketing Director for Uncle Waithley’s Beverage Company, a ginger beer brand available in Whole Foods. Michael is also a founding board member of Equity Platforms, which democratizes access to ownership and creates affordable housing for those in need. His passion for men’s mental health and wellness is evident in his initiatives aimed at improving access to mental health equity for underserved communities in New York City. His commitment to youth welfare has been recognized by the New York City Department of Education.
In 2008, Michael played a pivotal role in pioneering mobile fundraising for nonprofits through the popular program Text to Pledge®, which has raised an impressive $225 million to date for various charitable organizations. Additionally, he was a recipient of the Black Ambition Prize in 2023 alongside his business partners for Uncle Waithley’s Beverage Company.
As an advocate for mental health equity, Michael authored Inner Warriorship: Memoir of a Latch-Key Kid, [available January 2025] which chronicles his journey of overcoming childhood trauma and transforming it into a source of strength. His work and his companies have garnered attention in Afrotech, Business Insider, Forbes, and Black Enterprise, collaborating with esteemed brands such as LVMH, Healthline Media, and Sprite.
Michael finds immense joy in his role as a father to three children, Maxwell, Elijah, and Indigo, and remains dedicated to empowering his community while creating impactful opportunities for all.
